What is balayage?

To answer the question we are asked many times, Balayage is a French word meaning ‘to sweep’ or ‘to paint’.

In hairdressing it is a highlighting technique that creates a sun-kissed natural look on any hair colour.

It is a lower maintenance option so you can have beautiful lived-in colour that lasts for up to 12 weeks; longer in some cases.

The beauty of balayage is that it works with the natural fall of your hair and your own tones to create a bespoke look that’s on-trend and totally tailored for you.

Balayage is all about soft contrasts that add movement and dimension for an effortless wearable look.

It is freehand hair painting technique, without foils, that create either a very natural looking highlight or a more dramatic contrast.

Your colour should grow out very softly without any harsh lines or tell tail colour applications.

If you want on-trend hair that looks natural, sun-kissed, contrasted or 'lived-in' rather than the obvious coloured 'same old' colour, then balayage is the best choice for you.

Balayage can work for all hair lengths from crops, bobs, lobs to long layered hairstyles. Curly, wavy or smooth and straight, balayage is for all hair finishes. It is also becoming increasingly popular for men’s hair colouring too.

Why is it important?

Achieving your dream balayage look may consist of several processes.
